Subject of research
A complex dynamic catchment model will be designed to describe: (i) precipitation-runoff process, (ii) transport and retention of nutrients in the river
system, and (iii) hydrodynamics and water quality in reservoirs. After calibration with avalaible and newly measured data for the upper Vltava basin, the model will be used for an impact study of climate and land use changes to eutrophication of reservoirs. Precipitation-runoff process and nutrient transport via river network will be simulated within the GIS modelling system BASINS (US EPA), reservoirs by the model CE-QUAL-W2. Projections of climate change will be based on outputs of global circulation models (ECHAM, CCCM, etc.), daily data for the changed climate will be generated by statistical methods. Impacts to the ecosystems of each reservoir will be studied consecutively from the analysis of stratifications patterns through the effects of nutrient loading to the response of planktonic communities.
Research Goal
A dynamic model of the system "atmosphere-catchment-river network-reservoir" was composed from the HSPF and CE-QUAL-W2 models to evaluate impacts of changing global climate and nutrient pollution sources on water quality in rivers and reservoirs.
