Laboratory Open Days 2009

Analogous to each year, our laboratory participated in Open Days. The aim of this event was to introduce our research to public. Almost one hundred people have visited us.
Our research staff explained individual research projects and demonstrated unique equipment used for genome analysis and sequencing.

Flow cytometer Flow cytometer enables isolation of individual plant chromosomes. A daily capacity is 200-500 thousands sorted chromosomes.

A unique robot facilitates collection of transformed bacterial clones at a speed of 2000 clones / hour.

Our tropical greenhouse is used to maintain the biggest living collection of banana species and cultivars in Central Europe.

Digital fluorescence microscopy is used to identify parental chromosomes in hybrids of important species, fescue (Festuca) and ryegrass (Lolium).

DNA sequencing is one of the most important approaches used in today’s genomics.
