PhDr. Helena Březinová, Ph.D. (GA AS CR) 2009-2011

The project focuses on textile product remains preserved on archeological findings made of metal. The textile remains will be processed through technological analyses the results of which are important especially for establishing the technique of textile production in different periods. During the project targeted search for and detailed analyses of findings and sets of items containing textile remains will be performed with a special focus on early medieval burial sites where the prospect of textile findings is the greatest. The search for textile fragments will include a detailed analysis of the surface of metal items, including findings from past researches and ongoing excavations. The goals of the project is to generate new and detailed knowledge about early medieval textile production on the basis of research and evaluation of a large set of textile fragments from several locations, and to increase the awareness of the importance of now overlooked archaeological textile findings.
