Pipeline flow of highly concentrated fine-grained slurries

  • Identification: A2060701 - Grant Agency of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic
  • Duration: 1997 - 2001
  • Principal investigator: Ing. Pavel Vlasák DrSc.

The aim of proposed project is mainly the experimental research of laminar and turbulent flow of non-Newtonian fine-grained slurries (especially of fluidal or slag-type boilers fly ash with desulphurization of waste gases), determination of the dependence of rheological parameters and flow behaviour on concentration, size distribution, physico-chemical properties of hydromixture, time and variation of the stress. The limits of rheological models applicability and reliability of their parameters, determined by different rheometric techniques (tube, capillary and rotational viscometry), will be proved. The proper scale-up method will be appointed on the basis of pressure gradient, flow rate and concentration measurement in pipes of different diameters. The possibility of drag reduction by treatment of slurry chemical composition or by addition of polymers or surfactants and the effect of unsteady flow conditions (due to the valves and pump handling) on pressure variation in a pipe will be investigated, too.
