Economic Sociology

The department’s research activities encompass the broad field between economics and sociology, covering everything from theoretical questions to empirical research, and focuses specifically on the area of the labour market, economic inequalities and social policy. Most recently it has also turned its attention to aspects of values and religion in relation to economic life. The department also comprises the Socio-economics of Housing research team (see below). The Economic Sociology department’s research involves a strong comparative dimension, which is founded on contact with the World Bank, the ILO, the EC, the Luxembourg Income Study, and other international institutions. It is also an important source of domestic research expertise.
