A Great Moravian Enclosure in Uherské Hradiště and the Floods in 9th and 20th Century

The archaeological escavations at Otakarova Street (1979-1989) revealed stratigraphy dating from the end of the 8th to beginning of the 10th centuries. The site lay at the western edge of St. George's Island, a component of the Great Moravian Staré Město - Uherské Hradiště enclosure. Where were preserved a dead arm of Morava-river and the remains of settlement. The earlier layers were divided from the later by a layer of flood deposits. It is known that the settled zone lay beyond the reach of regular floodings, but it is necessary to review the plans of the entire area in respect of the impact of major floods. The results will be a comparison between the ancient and modern water regimes. During the processing of the source material ahd the evaluation of its suitability, the extent damages caused by the flooding of the excavated material will be made clear.
