is a FORTRAN code for disentangling (i.e. a separation of component spectra
and simultaneous solution of system parameters) of spectroscopically variable
stellar systems using Fourier transform in the wavelength domain. KOREL was developed
together with the method itself by P. Hadrava on the basis of experience with
his code FOTEL (for FOTometric ELements) and inspiration by the Cross-correlation
method (that is why KOR(elation)EL(ements)).
The method was later denoted as disentangling to point out the importance of
simultaneous spectra decomposition and parameters fitting well justified
by Simon and Sturm (1994, A&A 281, 286)
for their independently developed method based on SVD in direct wavelength domain.
The code itself is now available as a Virtual Observatory Service on
VO-KOREL web-page
of Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
The ethical problems,
which badly damaged also the work on the Fourier disentangling, grew up
in the mean time into a direct danger for fundamental science in Czech Republic.
A formal quantitative scientometric evaluation of research regardless of
its quality and originality, and attempts to transfer funds from science to
industry resulted in plans to reduce substantialy the Academy of Sciences.
