TopicModified polymers for tissue engineering
AnnotationBiomedical applications including tissue engineering necessitate materials with possibility to set the required parameters very precisely in relatively wide ranges. This can be achieved by appropriate selection of synthetic materials. Hydrogels, due to their unique properties, play important role in the field of biomaterials. Synthesis, polymerization techniques, and various surface modifications of hydrogels can affect their interaction with living tissue with the aim to control transport of bioactive substances or specific cell cultivation and their potential transplantation. The objective of the work is synthesis of hydrogels, characterization of their structure (homogeneous, macroporous, or nanofibrous), characterization of the surface properties and their modification in order to introduce the appropriate surface functional groups suitable for immobilization of biologically active motifs. Evaluation of the interaction polymer - living tissue will be done in collaboration with partner biological laboratories.
