The Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry AS CR, v.v.i. (IMC) opens PhD study program to persons who have successfully completed university study and obtained Master's degree (or equivalent) in chemistry, physics, biochemistry or engineering by the expected beginning of the PhD study. IMC is one of the leading research and education institutions in macromolecular science in Europe. Currently, about 50 postgraduate students are working and studying at the Institute. Thus, the new PhD students will join a group of motivated young scientists just starting their career in polymers. At the same time, they can count on support from experienced supervisors and other staff members. Quite unique in the Institute is the possibility to apply and combine several contemporary methods for sample preparation and characterization, including spectroscopy, microscopy, X-ray diffraction, NMR, DSC, mechanical characterization and modern analytical methods. The PhD study at IMC includes experimental or theoretical work, active participation in seminars, lectures, language courses, international conferences and exchange programs. After successfully completing the study program and defending the theses, the student is awarded the academic degree PhD, but more importantly, he or she gains a deep understanding of contemporary polymer science and - last but not least - a general personal development.
The core themes of the PhD program cover virtually all branches of contemporary polymer science. The themes for the academic year 2010/2011 are presented here. Of course, the particular theme could be modified together with the supervisor. The doctoral study at IMC is organized in cooperation with several Czech universities, such as the Charles University or the Institute of Chemical Technology in Prague.
The doctoral candidates are asked to contact the selected supervisor from the attached list and fill in the Application form by 18 March 2010. Then the candidates will be invited to an interview at the IMC. For this, a short presentation of Master theses (5 min, ppt) will be helpful. After interview selected candidates will receive further information concerning the study, university registration, life in Prague and possibilities of accommodation.
