Specific effects in condensed systems with reduced dimension and broken symmetry

The subject is the study of dynamic and cooperative effects in condensed systems with broken symmetry caused by reduced dimension, defects, and non– ordered space arrangement (thin films, superlattices, grain, domain and phase boundaries, clusters, nanocomposites, superfluid helium, liquid crystals). The study concerns namely: the effect of electron correlations, admixtures, and in–homogeneities on formation of the electronic structure of materials with complex crystalline structure, the dynamics of dielectric response of materials with specific dielectric properties, further mechanic and structural properties of grain boundaries in selected metal polycrystals, phase transformations in intermetallic alloys with shape memory and systems with magnetic cooperative behavior. The results will serve as a basis for development of materials with demanded properties, or functional materials, profiting from characteristic changes of their properties under the influence of external fields.
