TopicPolymer biomaterials for tissue regeneration and tissue engineering
AnnotationThe topic deals with research of biodegradable polymers potentially suitable as scaffolds for tissue regeneration/ tissue engineering applications. The main focus will be on development of specific modifications of polymers with functional structures that have potential to control specific interactions between the polymer biomaterial and the components of biological environment in a tissue, e.g., to stimulate adhesion, migration and differentiation of stem cells. The student project is a part of a broader team program, which includes synthesis of suitable polymers, their processing into 3D-scaffold structures and development of techniques of their surface modification with bio-mimetic structures as well as evaluation of resulting physical, biochemical and biological properties of prepared biomaterials. The function of polymer biomaterials in biological models, such as in cell cultures in vitro and tissues in vivo, are studied in a close cooperation with biological and medical laboratories in Czech republic as well as abroad.
