TopicNew polymeric materials for membrane processes
Annotation"The membrane processes belong to new emerging technologies – their advantages are low energy consumption, reliability, and they are environmentally friendly. Polymer membranes are suitable for separation of gases and vapors based on sieve effect – different gases diffuse through polymers in different rate. Crucial factors for separation efficiency are both chemical structure and membrane morphology. In this way we have discovered that polymer foams, as multiple membrane systems, are selective “adsorbers” of gases. Another topic of the departments activities are membranes for high temperature fuel cells. The aim of the PG study is synthesis of new types of polymers, preparation of membranes and their physico-chemical characterization e.g.: permeability and diffusivity of gases and vapors, thermal stability, mechanical strength, morphology. This research will be carried out in frames of grant projects regarding alternative energy sources, helium recovery."
