| Topic | 3D structure analysis of chitinolytic enzymes of bacterial microflora of the gastro-intestinal tract. |
| Annotation | Bacteria inhabiting human gastro-intestinal tract express several enzymes capable of chitin cleavage. This complex of chitinolytic enzymes degrades chitin-containing cell walls of fungi and contributes to human health. A detailed study of enzymes of one of these bacteria provides important characteristics and properties of the molecules, including determination of their three-dimensional structure by the means of x-ray diffraction. The work is focused on enzyme isolation from bacterial extracts, their purification, activity assays,crystallization and determination of their three-dimensional structure by x-ray diffraction analysis followed by computational analysis of the obtained results. |
