Research
In the Department, routine analyses utilizing
standard analytical procedures and
instrumentation are performed to characterize the
products investigated by the Institute staff.
New analytical procedures for specific
materials are proposed and verified to obtain
reliable results supporting research activities
of the Institute and quality control of products
for industry and business, e.g. benzene and
off-odor substances in wrapping foils.
In research
activities, attention is focused on the
application of advanced analytical methods for
the identification and determination of both
major and trace components. Utilization of solid
phase microextraction (SPME) together with GC-MS
allows to analyse volatiles and semivolatiles in
a broad spectrum of polymer materials and
products.
Identification of polymers in collections and
objects of cultural heritage to propose proper
methods of their maintenance and preservation is
performed for public and private institutions.
In 2000, a new method, dynamic characteristic
of bipolar membranes was elaborated and
presented. The method allows a
chronopotentiometric aspect to be involved in the
volt-ampere characteristics. The theory of the
oriented concentration potential of asymmetric
membranes has been extended to all known types of
membrane asymmetry. The methodology for
evaluation of proton conduction in membranes has
been developed.
