INTERNATIONAL UNION OF PURE AND APPLIED CHEMISTRY
Prague Meetings on Macromolecules
INSTITUTE OF MACROMOLECULAR CHEMISTRY
ACADEMY OF SCIENCES OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC
The conference continues in the tradition of the Prague Meetings on Macromolecules, organized since 1967. It should deal with various aspects of detection and evaluation of order emerging in systems of synthetic as well as natural macromolecules in bulk or solution by molecular spectroscopy. It should tackle relative ordering on various scales accessible to molecular spectroscopy, in particular molecular (preferred conformations, increased persistence length, ordering of low-molecular-weight ligands and counterions), supramolecular (complex formation, short-range ordering interactions) and supermolecular or phase-like (micelles, microphases and other nanostructures, microscopic domains in polymer blends, etc.). Main methods probing into emerging order, discussed at the conference, should be high-resolution liquid- and solid-state NMR (spectra, relaxation, spin-diffusion, self-diffusion, etc.) and vibrational spectroscopy (infrared, Raman, micro-Raman imaging, etc.).
Pre-ordered states in solution; macromolecular complexes in solution and bulk; nematic and related phases; micelles, liposomes and similar systems; pre-crystalline states; membranes; structured polymer networks; polymer blends.
To date, the following scientists have accepted the invitation to present main lectures:
About twenty special lectures (20 minutes each, additional 5 minutes for discussion) are to be presented at the Conference.
If you wish to present a special lecture, please submit a brief summary along with the preliminary registration card to the P.M.M. Secretariat till 31st December 2002. In December 2002, the Conference Programme Committee will inform the authors whether their lectures have been accepted. Both special speakers selected by the Program Committee and all the other participants can present their contributions as poster communications.
Two poster sessions are planned (75-100 minutes each). The number of posters is not limited. Detailed information on the format of posters will be given in the Second Circular.
Summaries of invited main lectures, special lectures and poster communications will appear in the Program Booklet. Full texts of main lectures and selected oral and poster communications will be published in a special volume of Macromolecular Symposia.
All sessions of the meeting will take place in the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Heyrovského nám. 2, Praha 6.
Full information and final registration form will be included in the Second Circular to be sent out before 15th February 2003 to all those who will preregister for the Meeting by returning the attached preliminary registration card or by the WWW form till 31st December 2002. The WWW form is at http://www.imc.cas.cz/sympo/g22dc.htm.
(approximate, including lunches): full fee CHF 650 , student fee CHF 300 (available also for participants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russian Federation, Slovakia, Slovenia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Yugoslavia). Accompanying person fee CHF 300. Payment of fees should be made along with the final registration form submission.
All participants are invited to take part in social events to be specified in the Second Circular. A special programme will be arranged for registered accompanying persons.
Accommodation will be available in a student dormitory within easy reach from the Institute by walk or by public transport. Accommodation is not included in any registration fee.
A valid passport is required for entry into the Czech Republic. Visas are generally valid for three months from the date of issue; please note that your visa must be valid until the end of your stay in the Czech Republic. Visas are not required if participants come from countries with which the Czech Republic has a visa-free agreement (their official list can be found at URL http://www.czechembassy.org/wwwo/mzv/default.asp?id=7338&ido=7306&idj=2&amb=1).
IUPAC sponsorship implies that entry visas will be granted to all bona fide chemists provided application is made not less than three months in advance. If a visa is not granted one month before the meeting, the IUPAC Secretariat should be notified without delay by the applicant.
