In proposed project we would like to evaluate present archaeological sources from rural milieu that help us to learn more about beginnings of medieval church-yards in the Czech lands. The project focuses on process of establishing of the church-yards and its relation to settlement pattern, to beginnings of churches in countryside and of nobiliary residence. The device of the study is an audit of present knowledge about medieval burial grounds from the period before the establishing of church-yards with a focus on the dating of their termination and evaluation of archaological and historical information about medieval church-yards, chronology of their beginnings and their properties. An important part of the project is a case-study in which we will deal with a late wide excavation of 12th-13th churchyard in Vrbno by Mělník that brought up principal information necessary for solving of the afore-mentioned questions in Czech lands.
