Research activities of the department focus to study of physical, chemical and structural properties of various types of nanostructures and thin films. Main research directions are the following:

• nanostructures and thin films of silicon used for photovoltaic modules
• characterization, modification of atomic and electronic structure of surfaces and nanostructures, computer simulations of nanostructures and surfaces
• brightly photoluminescent silicon nanostructures as light sources for nanophotonics
• organic-anorganic nanosystems for optical electronics and bio electronics

which are solved within national and international research projects.
