prof. Ing. Lubomír Němec, DrSc.

(born in 1942 Velké Meziříčí)

Graduated at the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) in Prague in 1964, specialized in the technology of nuclear fuels and isotopes. In 1968, he acquired his scientific degree CSc. (PhD.) in the field of chemistry and technology of glasses in the Joint Laboratory for the Chemistry and Technology of Silicates, common workplace of the Academy of Sciences and the ICT. Since 1994, he managed the Laboratory of Inorganic Materials, common workplace of the ICT and the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the ASCR and between 1996 and 2004, he has been charged with leadership of the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the ASCR. The scientific degree DrSc. obtained in 1996 for the work in the field of energetic balances of glass melting processes. In 1998, he was appointed to a professorship in the Chemistry and Technology of Inorganic Materials by the scientific council of the ICT. He gives lectures on Technology of glass in the master study, as well as in the program for fereign students, and on Modelling of glass melting in the PhD. program of the ICT.

His scientific interest includes processes of formation of glass and glassy materials and processes i molten glass, particularly interactions of gases with glass melts, oxidation-reduction equilibria in molten glasses, energetic balances and new concepts of the industrial glass melting. He is author and co-outhor of about 200 scientific communications in journals and contributions in international conferences, co-author of two technical monographs and 12 patents, his works shows about 35O citations. He managed several application projects in cooperation with world glass producers. Since 1997, he works in the technical commission Gases in Glass of the International Commission on Glass and since 1990, in the commission Mathematical Modelling of Glass Melting. He is member of two editorial boards of technical and scientific journals.
