The Functional materials department was established in January 2009 bringing together the researchers working at IP ASCR in the field of functional engineering materials and composites, nanostructured diamond coatings and nanomaterials for biointerfaces with strong potential for engineering applications.

  • The division of Condensed Matter Physics at IP ASCR, v. v. i. organizes a seminar with a presentation by Christian Colliex, president of ISFM International Federation of Societies for Microscopy, entitled "EELS mapping, a key component for the exploration of the nanoworld" (see abstract).

  • ILL Grenoble launched a press release released concerning a measurement of internal stresses in a smart cutting related to research in the  field of stone cutting tools.
  • ASM International newsletter E-elastic released featured article about the recently devoloped method a equipment for heat treatment of thin NiTi filaments by electric current
  • Roundrobin SMA modelling organised by the department with support from S3T ESF EUROCORES programme continues.
  • The application for structural fund project DEVISER propřed by NPI ASCR and IF ASCR has entered evaluation stage in january 2010
  • The functional materials department organizes, together with the department of metals, the ESOMAT 2009 7-11 September 2009.
  • A heat activated artificial flower designed and developed in the department of functional materials for the Czech TV was used in the second part of TV show "Wonders of Nature" (channel CT1, Saturday 8:00pm, March 14th, 2009).
