Establishing of the Biotechnology Institute ASCR
The goal is to lay foundations for a new Biotechnology Institute Acad.Sci. CR (BTI). BTI will deal with biotech applied research, collaborate with relevant commercial subjects and be a source of new spin–off companies. In 2007, "modest" foundations of BTI will exist as a Biotechnology Section of IMG (in an existing buiding for 60 people), in 2008 it will become independent. In 2007–2009 a new BTI building for ca 200 employees will be built (funded mainly from EU structural funds) and become fully operational in 2010–2011, with 15 research groups. The main research areas will be: diagnostics for reproductive medicine; recombinant antigens, vaccines, antibodies, and other diagnostic and therapeutics agents; development of advanced analytical and preparative methods for practical biotechnology applications; applied chemical genetics; transgenic animals. BTI will be financed by a combination of institutional core support, other public sources and collaborations with the private sector.
