Center for Economic Research & Graduate Education - Economics Institute

People

More than 200 people from two dozen different countries work or study at CERGE-EI. Each contributes to fulfilling the CERGE-EI mission to provide the best economics education and to produce economic research of the highest quality. For your reference, we've compiled here the names of, and in certain cases information about, all of the members of the CERGE-EI community, broken down into the following categories:

Permanent Faculty

The permanent faculty of CERGE-EI currently is composed of approximately 20 scholars from a wide variety of countries. Faculty members are normally hired from the international market, and all hold a PhD from highly regarded institutions. The Executive and Supervisory Committee recommends candidates for open positions, and the Director of CERGE-EI then hires faculty members according to the criteria of demonstrated academic excellence and the needs of the institution. CERGE-EI faculty members are also members of the faculty of Charles University.

Lecturers and Senior Researchers

Senior researchers, including lecturers, are full-time employees who work on a wide variety of research projects in the field of economics, with access to the facilities of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. All senior researchers are members of the EI Academic Assembly, and they are further represented by the EI Scientific Council.

Visiting Faculty

Visiting faculty from other universities and organizations have been a staple at CERGE-EI since the very beginning. Visiting faculty play several important roles at our institution, including teaching, dissertation advising, and mentoring of the permanent faculty. Visiting faculty members serve as a valuable source of knowledge, opinions, insight, and culture, and they add to the diversity and vibrancy to the institution.

Visiting Researchers
Visiting researchers spend various amounts of time at CERGE-EI -- from a few weeks to an entire year. Some visiting researchers work with CERGE-EI faculty members and senior researchers on existing projects, while others bring their own projects with them. Visiting researchers are provided with offices and are granted full access to the resources and facilities of CERGE-EI. In addition, visiting researchers are afforded numerous benefits offered by the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, including the use of its library.

Junior Researchers

Junior researcher status is accorded to a select group of advanced CERGE-EI students who are engaged in dissertation research. Junior researchers often work under the guidance of senior researchers and/or faculty members.
