Tuition & Fees

Tuition

Tuition can vary depending on the student. A typical tuition level for a student from a post-transition or developing country is 8000 Euro for the complete MAE program.

Standard tuition for the complete MAE program is 12,000 Euro.  According to the mission of CERGE-EI, most students with a citizenship from post-transition and developing countries have a tuition discount.

Exceptionally well-prepared applicants can apply for a scholarship of up to 50% of whatever tuition they would otherwise pay. These scholarships are considered on a case-by-case basis. The number of scholarships granted depends on the budget situation and the applicant pool, but generally only a few scholarships will be granted each year.

To apply for the scholarship, when you submit your application also submit by email a letter describing why you should gain the scholarship. The letter should be two pages maximum. Remember that academic merit is the criterion for awarding the scholarship.

If you decide to study part-time after the Fall Semester, you can take courses whenever they are offered without paying extra. However, you must complete the program by four years from the time you begin study at the latest. If you do not complete all the degree requirements by that time, your paid tuition is forfeit and your student status will be revoked.

Fees

Other than tuition, there are fees for the following items:

  • Preparatory Semester in English
  • Preparatory Semester in Economics
  • Administration when not enrolled in a course
  • Application (waived if have a recruiter code)
  • Thesis (optional)
  • Health insurance (required by Czech law).

The fee for the Preparatory Semester in English is set during the admission process, but is expected to be in the range of 1000–1500 Euro. The Preparatory Semester in English is available to all applicants, but will be required only for those with sub-standard English-language qualification.

The fee for the Preparatory Semester in Economics is 200 Euro. This is an on-line course that does not require you to be present in Prague.

The Administration fee for when you are an MAE student but you are not enrolled in a course is 100 Euro per semester.

The Application fee is 150 Euro, which is waived if the applicant has a recruiter code on her or his application.

The fee for completing a Thesis is 1500 Euro. This fee pays for the increased faculty attention to the individual student and added administration costs.

You are required by Czech law to have health insurance from an approved provider regardless of coverage you might have from your home country. We will help you search for the cheapest insurance option, but we estimate that health insurance will cost around 750 Euro for the 6-month visa period (so about 1500 Euro for the whole 12-month program).

Payment

Timing

Tuition, the fee for the Preparatory Semester in Economics, and the Application fee (if applicable), are due before the first day of classes of the Fall Semester.

Proof of health insurance is also due before the first day of classes of the Fall Semester.

Depending on the type of admission offered to the student, either full or partial tuition will be due before the Fall Semester starts. Some students might be offered conditional admission, where they still need to pass a secondary entrance exam in January. These students pay tuition only for the Fall Semester and then pay the rest of the tuition when they pass the secondary entrance exam.

The fee for the Preparatory Semester in English is due before the first day of the Preparatory Semester.

The Administrative fee if you are not enrolled in any courses is due before the first day of that semester.

The Thesis fee is due before the first day of the semester when you begin writing the Thesis.

Method of payment

We can accept a variety of methods of payment: bank transfer, credit card, wire transfer, etc. Each admitted student will be contacted to agree on the particular method of payment of tuition.

Failure to meet the payment schedule will cause the student to lose her or his student status and make it impossible to complete the degree program.

Financial support

Other than the generous discount and scholarship, CERGE-EI unfortunately at the present time cannot offer any other financial support for students, nor do we administer granting of other funds.

It is possible for students to obtain bank loans and other support for study. The MAE program will make every effort to assist students in searching for such opportunities.
