Description of the grant project types

A. Standard research grant projects
B. Junior research grant projects
C. Complementary publishing grant projects

Principal characteristics of the announced project types:

A. Standard research grant projects
The subjects of these grant projects are based on the suggestions of the researchers, while it is desirable that their contents contribute to the development of the long-term drawn research in the elementary and theoretical scientific disciplines. The purpose-built subsidy is awarded to the standard research projects whose subject is basic research in the disciplines covered by the separate Department Councils with the project team composed of professionals from one organization or from different organizations of similar specialization. The expected time of the project implementation is 3 to 5 years. Complying with the project documentation, the applicants also have a possibility to file into the tenders the project proposals of interdepartmental (interdisciplinary) character, i.e. contributing to the development of knowledge exceeding the borders of the narrow disciplinary specialization and integrating ideological and methodology approaches of several basic scientific disciplines. The length of such interdepartmental projects may also be 3-5 years. The interdisciplinary concept of the projects provides opportunity to the joint teams composed of employees of organizations with different specializations carrying out research in the elementary scientific disciplines and supports cooperation of different institutes of the Academy of Sciences, universities and other research organizations. For the purpose of evaluation of the proposals of interdepartmental projects the GA AS establishes the Council for Interdepartmental Projects composed of the representatives of all Department Councils.
B. Junior research grant projects
The objective of this type of projects is to inspire young and talented scientists to formulate their own subjects – specific and usually one-track issue – and to compose a small team for the project implementation. The purpose-built subsidy is awarded to the projects whose subject is the elementary research in the disciplines covered by the separate Department Councils. The junior research grant projects should thus serve to profiling of the future leading teams. The grant project may be proposed by a young researcher who is a graduate or a student of doctor’s studies and is up to 35 years old in time of initiation of the project implementation. If the project designer works on the project with a team, its members must be less than 38 years old in time of the project initiation. The projects implementation may be designed for the period of 1 to 3 years. As a part of the approach offering equal opportunities to genders, the applicants returning at the workplace after the parental leave are advantaged by increasing the age limit by two years for each child. GA AS gives further assistance to these applicants by giving them the possibility to postpone initiation of the project implementation by up to 9 months if the grant project succeeds.
C. Complementary publishing grant projects (up to the year 2007)
This type of grant projects is designed for the support of publishing of the existing manuscripts of the original scientific works compiled in course of research projects of standard type. The support is focused on small editions of the extensive scientific publications – original monographs. These publications usually summarize results of the research activities in a long period and cannot be financed as part of the standard grant projects. The grants are typically awarded to the research teams from the field of humanities and social sciences. The subsidy is granted for 1 year.
