The main role of the Joint Laboratory is mutual cooperation of IOCB and Institute of Chemical Technology Prague based on scientific and educational activities of researchers of both institutions with the aim to solve particular problems with wide involvement of PhD, master and bachelor students. On the basis of this cooperation the students can obtain deep theoretical and practical knowledge, learn a wide range of methods and get acquainted with professionals from specific fields of biochemistry, molecular biology and organic chemistry. The joint laboratory is formed at IOCB by the Senior Research group headed by T. Macek, at Institute of Chemical Technology by the group headed by Prof. K. Demnerová at the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology of the Faculty of Food and Biochemical Technology.

The aim is to study possibilities of influencing activity of various plant and microbial proteins. Previous results led to targeting some groups of plant natural products as potential activators of the synthetic or degradative enzyme activities.
