Website of the Department of Magnetism and Low Temperatures
The research concerns physical properties and magnetization processes in both metallic and nonmetallic magnetically soft materials and a broad range of magnetically hard ones. The material properties are investigated under combined extreme conditions – in temperature range 0.35 to 350 K, magnetic fields up to 14 Tesla, hydrostatic pressure up to 2 GPa, and frequency range 8 to 108 GHz. The main emphasis is set on experiments and modelling of the observed behaviour. Our research covers amorphous and nanocrystalline magnetics, high-Tc superconductivity, compounds with strongly correlated d- and f- electrons, flow and turbulence phenomena in cryogenic fluids, nondestructive testing of construction steels etc. The principal experimental centres of the Department are the Joint Laboratory for Magnetic Studies and the Joint Laboratory of Low Temperatures. The multi-frequency FMR lab shown on the image is one of the world’s best equipped ones for ferromagnetic resonance studies.
