Using a Turnstile

CERGE-EI Library Turnstile User Guide

A Few questions you may have in advance:

What will be different for me now?

Every time you enter and exit the library, you must place your library card (ISIC) onto the barcode scanner.

What if I forget my Card?

Just ring the librarian on duty by pressing the button on the wall (provided with a telephone), and the librarian will see you on a screen and can talk to you. He / she will let you through the turnstile (opening the turnstile from the circulation desk).

What if my Card doesn’t open the turnstile for me?

Just press the button described above and show your card to the librarian on duty as she can verify and eventually correct your barcode in the system.

What if I lose my Card?

Please report the loss immediately to the library, and we shall block your card in the system as no one else can enter the library and borrow books under your name.

What if the turnstile is not suitable for me?

You can always ask a librarian to open the gate (designed for wheelchair access) for you.

Can two people enter the library at once= one card?

No, they can not. The turnstile is quite narrow for two. You may be stopped by the mechanical arms! – You have to ask the librarian to open the turnstile for your friend.

What if I invite a large group of students to visit the library?

We can open the gate for a limited period.

What if a danger/fire occurs in the library?

The turnstile and the gate will be automatically opened.
