Anniversary Week in Prague
Academic Conference Highlighting Research by Alumni
CERGE-EI alumni conducting research at some of the world’s leading universities and institutes will contribute papers to a conference entitled CERGE-EI: Economists Changing the World to take place from the afternoon of October 7th until noon on October 9th. All CERGE-EI faculty, alumni, students and officials of Charles University and the Academy of Sciences will be invited.
Social Events for the CERGE-EI Community, Past and Present
On both Friday and Saturday evenings during the conference social events will be organized for alumni to reconnect and meet current faculty and students One event will be a wine and cheese reception at CERGE-EI, while the other will take over a local pub to continue the long-standing tradition of CERGE-EI Beer Parties.
Václav Havel's Forum 2000 Conference
CERGE-EI will be presenting two sessions with the working titles “Rule of Law and Economic Growth” and “Legal Institutions and Transition Success” on Tuesday, October 9th as part of Forum 2000 to be held in Prague from October 9–11, 2011. Organized by Václav Havel, Forum 2000, is an annual Davos-like event centered around a theme and drawing prestigious speakers from around the world to discuss regional social and economic issues. 20th Anniversary Formal Dinner
An exclusive cocktail party and dinner for CERGE-EI supporters with selected Forum 2000 participants will be organized on Tuesday, October 11th after the Forum's concluding event.
Symposium Series in Financial Centers
(New York, London, and/or Frankfurt)
CERGE-EI faculty, alumni, and associates in key positions will present a series of discussions analyzing economic trends and events in Central and Eastern European of interest to the business community. The planned topics are:
- Color Revolutions: Implications for the Middle East.
- Lessons in Splitting Currencies: Crown, Dinar and Ruble.
- Is Russia a BRIC?
The format is flexible. Topics may be presented together as a one-day event or split into separate events depending on sponsors' needs and interests. Symposia will take place between mid-September and late November.
Policy Essays and “Festschriff”
Major economists who support CERGE-EI will write essays on critical regional issues for placement in leading international and Czech media outlets. Each essay will use lessons from the post-communist transition to provide insight into a current issue or trend. These essays will be reprinted in a single volume entitled Looking Back—Looking Forward: 20 Years of Transition to be distributed at 20th Anniversary events.
Volume of the Best Research from CERGE-EI
Entitled CERGE-EI Tackles the Transition, this collection of articles reprinted from top refereed journals will contain the most influential scholarly papers published by CERGE-EI faculty over the past 20 years. The foreword will be by the winner of the 2000 Nobel Prize in Economics, Joseph Stiglitz, with the introduction by Jan Švejnar.
