CERGE-EI is a joint workplace of Charles University in Prague and the Economics Institute of the ASCR, v. v. i. The objective of the joint workplace is to fuse research and educational goals. This joint cooperation also creates mutually beneficial links such as the use of funds, as well as common necessary administration structures and assistance services for CERGE and EI.
The Executive and Supervisory Committee of CERGE and EI (hereafter ESC) is named by the Rector of Charles University in Prague and the Chairman of the Academy of Sciences. In addition to its other tasks, it acts simultaneously as an evaluative committee for CERGE, on behalf of Charles University, and for EI on behalf of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. The ESC's primary task is to ensure the high quality of the joint workplace, to guarantee quality and, by using its own reputation, to attract and obtain external funds for CERGE-EI. The ESC makes recommendations within CERGE-EI in the following areas: evaluating the academic orientation of CERGE-EI, evaluating the work of researchers, teachers, and upper-level managers for purposes of hiring, promotion, and retention, ensuring the integration and allocation of funds from various sources into the consolidated budget of CERGE-EI, and approving institutional co-operation of CERGE-EI with other institutions.
