Events

Mon, 30/05/2011 - 09:00 - Sat, 04/06/2011 - 17:00

The coming school will be devoted to the rapidly expanding field of “Physics at Nanoscale”. Invited speakers from leading world laboratories will present the latest progress in the research fields concentrated to nanoscale, in particular

Seminar / Tue, 07/06/2011 - 15:00 - 17:00

J. Vacek (Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry v.v.i. AS CR)

We studied self-organization of azahelicenes ((+)-(P)-2-aza[6]helicene) on Ag(1,1,1) surfaces. Combined scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and tuning-fork-based noncontact atomic force microscopy (NC-AFM) were used to explore the system experimentally. Regular flower-like cyclic aggregates consisting of six azahelicenes were observed. Computational chemistry methods were then applied to estimate the structure of the observed molecular clusters.

The Dvořák Lecture / Wed, 08/06/2011 - 15:00 - 17:00

Prof. Dieter Vollhardt (University of Augsburg, Germany)

The 3rd Dvořák Lecture

Since their discovery in 1971 the superfluid phases of Helium-3 have proved to be the ideal testing ground for many fundamental concepts of modern physics.

Seminar / Thu, 09/06/2011 - 15:00 - 16:00

Karel Píška (Institute of Physics, AS CR)

Seminar / Mon, 13/06/2011 - 10:00

Dr. Alexandra Mougin (Laboratoire de Physique des Solides - Université Paris Sud)

Today, an important challenge in the field of spin based electronic devices is to manipulate the magnetization of a ferromagnetic layer without applying an external magnetic field in order to reduce energy consumption. Recently, a renewed attention has been paid to the magneto-electric effect, i.e. coupling between magnetization and electric polarization, in magnetic ferroelectric or multiferroic materials. A new concept of writing magnetic memories using multiferroic materials could be an interesting alternative to spin-transfer torque.

Workshop / Mon, 27/06/2011 - 09:00 - Tue, 28/06/2011 - 18:00

V. Petříček, M. Dušek, K. Fejfarová

Ad hoc workshops are small two days workshops organized by authors of the crystallographic software Jana2006. The topics and dates are selected by participants in Jana web pages. A workshop is organized as soon as an overlap in subscribed topics is found.

Conference / Mon, 25/07/2011 - 09:00 - Sat, 30/07/2011 - 17:00

The conference will address the foundations of quantum physics and non-equilibrium quantum statistical physics. The systems considered will be mainly on the order of mesoscopic (nanoscale) size, and include those of both natural and artificial origin.
