Welcome to our website

Institute of Physics AS CR, v. v. i. (FZU) is a public research institute, oriented on the fundamental and applied research in physics. The founder of the institute is the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.

The present research programme of the Institute comprises five branches of physics: particle physics, the physics of condensed matter, solid state physics, optics and plasma physics. It also corresponds to the way how the institute is divided into major research divisions.

On June 20th, 2011, Josef Hlavka Prize was awarded to Prof. Dr. Ivan Pelant from the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and to associate Prof. Dr. Jan Valenta from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University in Prague. The Prize was awarded for an original book of scientific literature entitled „Luminiscenční spektroskopie II. Nanostruktury, elektroluminiscence, stimulovaná emise” (Luminescence Spectroscopy II. Nanostructures, Electroluminescence, Stimulated Emission), published by Academia Publishing House, Prague, in 2011.

Vítězslav Jarý, a PhD student in the Institute of Physics AS CR, has won the first prize in the H. Becquerel competition. He is involved in the Nuclear Chemistry program at FNSPE, CTU and is working on the scintillation mechanisms in the materials based on complex oxides. His studies are focused, in particular, on the problems of energy capture and energy transfer.

Professor Igor A. Savin, outstanding Russian physicist, visited Prague. On 26th May 2011 he was awarded 1st degree Medal of the Czech Physical Society in the Institute of Physics ASCR. During the ceremony I.A. Savin presented seminar concerning his collaboration with the Czech physicists at high energy experiments in Dubna, Serpukhov and CERN. The collaboration started in Dubna at the beginning of the year 1964 and prolonged in Serpukhov in the year 1969.

Relativistic behavior of electrons makes it possible to utilize magnetic resonance in electronic nanodevices. The discovery is a result of a longstanding fruitful collaboration of sicentists form the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and laboratories in Cambridge and Nottingham in the UK. The work was published in the prestigiuous journal Nature Nanotechnology
