Economics Institute
The Economics Institute
CERGE-EI has joined the movement against the proposed reform of state research funding.
CERGE-EI researchers have long argued that the reform, as currently proposed, is bound to shift a substantial amount of funding away from research institutes to private enterprises and to focus on higher volumes of research done at lower quality.

The Economics Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (EI) was created in 1992 and is the only workplace of the Academy of Sciences of the CR in the field of economics research. In 2007 the institute received the status of a public research institution. Its activities have gradually integrated with the activities of the Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education of the Charles University (CERGE) and this cooperation evolved into the establishment of a joint workplace called CERGE-EI in 1999. The main mission of CERGE-EI is to efficiently combine the scientific and pedagogic work of the two institutes and to educate a new generation of economists from post-communist countries who will be experts in the fields of transformation and market economics.
EI is concerned with scientific research in the field of economic theory on both the macro and micro levels, public finance, econometrics, economic integration, labor economics, market structure and organization, international trade, international finance, environmental economy, public health economy, experimental economics, transition economics and other fields connected with the transition to the market economy and entering the EU.
