Czech Society for Mechanics – the expert group for Computational mechanics and the Institute of Thermomechanics AS CR wish to invite you to a lecture entitled Periodicity Effects in Linear Vibro-Acoustics by

Prof. Sergey Sorokin
Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering
Aalborg University
Pontoppidanstraede 101
DK-9220 Aalborg East
Denmark

Abstract: The lecture is concerned with the stop- and pass-band phenomena in periodic elastic wave guides. Firstly, the classical Floquet theory is introduced and its application is illustrated. Then the stop- and pass-band effects are considered in wave guides equipped with a small number of the 'periodicity cells'. The vibration and power flow analysis is performed by means of the boundary integral equations method. Location of the stop- and pass-bands and the attenuation levels are compared with the predictions of Floquet theory. The role of material losses is explored. Finally, the brief introduction to the Wave Finite Element method is provided and its accuracy is assessed.
