William White

William White is at present a chair of the OECD's Economic and Development Review Committee. Prior to that position, from 1994 until retiring in 2008, he was working in the Bank of International Settlements (BIS). In BIS, he started with a managerial position in the Monetary and Economic Department, and soon became an Economic Advisor and Head of the Monetary and Economic Department. His whole professional career is a continuation of his economic education gained at the University of Windsor and the University of Manchester. After returning to Canada in 1972 he spent 22 years working at the Bank of Canada. Before he became an Advisor to the Governor and finally Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada, he served as a Deputy Chief of the Department of Banking and Financial Analysis and the Chief of the Research Department. He is known for his criticism to the Greenspan’s view on monetary policy and as one of the few economists who predicted the recent Financial Crisis.
