Brief Description

CERGE-EI, the Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education - Economics Institute, was founded in Prague in 1991, and is a Joint Workplace of Charles University in Prague and the Economics Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.  It offers merit-based PhD and Masters Programs in economics, taught in English, to students primarily from the transition countries of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), Russia, Central Asia the Caucasus, and Asia.

In addition to training new generations of economic leadership, CERGE-EI’s research arm provides a nexus for scholarship in theoretical and applied economics, especially in public-policy issues related to development and transition. CERGE-EI is recognized as a Center of Excellence by both the European Union and the US government.

Expert Commentary

CERGE-EI’s international faculty and researchers are often available to comment on finance, current events, economic and policy issues, and international relations in a variety of native languages including Albanian, Armenian, Azeri, Belorussian, Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, English, French, Georgian, German, Greek, Italian, Kazakh, Polish, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Turkish, and Uzbek.
