Received a Ph.D. in English and American Literature at the Department of Anglophone Literatures and Cultures at Charles University, Prague, the Czech Republic, in 2010. His Ph.D. dissertation was entitled “The Puzzle Novel”, studying modern and contemporary novels using narrative and novel theory. Received an M.A. in the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language from the University of Reading, England, in June 2006. Also received an M.A. in Literature and Theory from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, U.S.A., in 1998, and a B.A. in the Teaching of English from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1996. He is a certified secondary school teacher in Illinois, U.S.A., and has taught at Rolling Meadows High School in Illinois, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and the University of California Berkeley. In Prague he has taught at Anglo-American University, the CERGE-EI Ph. D. and M.A. programs, the UPCES study abroad program, and Metropolitan University Prague. In the past he has been Deputy Director for Graduate Studies and also Head of the English Department at CERGE-EI (now known as the Academic Skills Center at CERGE-EI). He is currently Assistant Professor in the Academic Skills Center at CERGE-EI and Professor at UPCES, and also serves as Program Director of the Master of Arts in Applied Economics (MAE) program at CERGE-EI.
