Dirk Engelmann graduated from the University of Göttingen in 1995 in Mathematics and received his Ph.D. degree in Economics from the Humboldt-University Berlin in 2000. In 2004 he defended his habilitation in economics, also at the Humboldt- University. During 1996-2001 he was Research and teaching Assistant at Humboldt-University Berlin. During 2003-2004 he was Assistant Professor at CERGE-EI. From September 2004 to August 2006 he was a Reader and from August 2006 to August 2010 Professor of Economics at Royal Holloway, University of London and from July 2008 Director of the Experimental Economics Laboratory. Since September 2010 he is Professor of Economics and Director of the Experimental Economics Laboratory at the University of Mannheim. Since 2007 he is Affiliate Researcher, Centre for Experimental Economics (CEE), University of Copenhagen and since 2010 CESifo Research Network Fellow. Since September 2008 he serves as an Associate Editor, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization. From Fall 2008 he is back at CERGE-EI as a part-time senior researcher.
