EVENT OF THE MONTH

The Learned Society is not only about the role of scientists

The Learned Society of the Czech Republic held its annual General Assembly Meeting in Prague. The participants heard an address by Czech President Vaclav Klaus who graced the event with his presence. The Learned Society awarded prizes to senior and junior scientists for their outstanding achievements and to secondary school students for their specialized work.

TOPIC OF THE MONTH

The Year of DNA has also Begun in Morava

Experts and students meeting in Brno heard the first in a series of lectures given by the world's leading scientists to mark the 50th anniversary of the description of the structure of DNA.

Functional Genomics and Disease was the focus of a large international conference organized by the European Science Foundation. It took place in Prague in May and attracted some 500 scientists who discussed the latest findings concerning human genome, functions of genes and their role in understanding and treating human diseases.
