The CEE region is comprised of 16 countries speaking 13 languages.
The Global Development Network (GDN) is an independent International Organization that allies researchers and institutes in development globally. Founded in 1999, GDN is headquartered in New Delhi, with offices in Cairo and Washington DC. GDN's core business is building research capacity. GDN supports researchers in developing and transition countries 'to generate and share applied social science research to advance social and economic development. Its aspiration is to achieve a critical mass of researchers who are globally interconnected and produce good research to impact public policy. GDN works in collaboration with 11 Regional Network Partners (RNPs) and a worldwide network of research institutes, academic institutions, think tanks, over 11,000 individual researchers globally, and various international donor organizations and governments.
These networks help in supporting the core activities of GDN, which together serve the goals of building research excellence, promoting networking, expanding outreach and shaping global policy debates in developing and transition countries:
- Inter-regional Research Projects (IRPs) - two regions joining to focus on a specific topic of mutual interest
- Regional Research Competitions (RRCs) - building research excellence and supporting local knowledge
- GDNet - research communications from & for the global south
- Awards & Medals Competitions - awarded at each annual conference, building research excellence and recognizing innovative ideas
- Annual Global Development Conferences - facilitating local, regional and global perspectives on current development debates
Each Regional Partner plays a significant role in assessing the region's research priorities and develops the basic framework for managing the RRC and IRPs. GDNet is managed in the Cairo office, though each partner is responsible for maintaining its own regional pages and communications strategy. We encourage you to visit the Central and Eastern European regional window at GDNet. Information about current and completed Global Research Projects can be found here. The Awards and Medals and the Annual Conferences are managed by the New Delhi secretariat.
