This national project is related to COST 288 Action. It is directed toward deep physical understanding, adequate theoretical description and experimental characterization of dispersion properties of waveguiding structures in photonic crystals, having in mind their application in photonic devices for telecommunications. Numerical stability of the 2-D bi-directional eigenmode propagation method combined with the Floquet mode calculation will be improved to allow for modelling more extended photonic bandgap structures. Detailed modal analysis of waveguides and waveguide devices in photonic crystals based on the method of generalised immitance or reflectance will be developed. A set-up for experimental characterisation of photonic crystal waveguide components based on a fine-tunable narrow-line laser will be completed, aiming at its application to spectral attenuation and dispersion measurements of optical waveguides and waveguide devices in the spectral range of 1500 - 1600 nm.
