International Advisory Board
The International Advisory Board (IAB) of the Mathematical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic is appointed by the Director of the Mathematical Institute after his hearing of the Scientific Council of the Mathematical Institute.
The present research activities of the Institute cover most fields of mathematics: real and functional analysis, mathematical and numerical analysis, theory of ordinary and partial differential equations, differential geometry, topology, probability theory, mathematical logic, and complexity theory.
The Institute follows the idea that only a general and complex development of mathematics, not the cultivation of just a single mathematical branch, can guarantee a full and general progress in mathematical cognition.
Members of the IAB may be asked for their opinion on all significant scientific and research issues that occur in the Institute and the Academy of Sciences, such as the future scientific orientation of the Institute and its possible changes, accepting new, especially young researches, or organization of international scientific meetings. The expert opinion of members of the IAB shall serve as a recommendation for the proceedings of the Scientific Council of the Institute and for the decisions of Director.
The IAB need not meet physically. The membership in the IAB is a position of honor. All members of the IAB are invited to visit the Institute any time they wish. However, the Institute should be contacted before such a visit to consult the capability of the Institute to cover travel and accommodation expenses.
