In 2008, the President of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (ASCR) presented the following awards:

The ASCR Award for Outstanding Scientific Results of Major Significance

to
  • RNDr. Marian Karlický, DrSc., Astronomical Institute of the ASCR, v. v. i., for the scientific result: Discovery of new radio and X-ray emission of solar flares and their theoretical explanation, accompanied by a sum of 100 000 CZK.
  • a research team of the J. Heyrovský Institute of Physical Chemistry of the ASCR, v. v. i., composed of: Prof. RNDr. Ladislav Kavan, DrSc. and RNDR. Ing. Martin Kalbáč, Ph.D., for the scientific result: Electrochemically active nanomaterials based on titanium dioxide and carbon, accompanied by a sum of 100 000 CZK.
  • a research team of the Institute of Ethnology of the ASCR, v. v. i., composed of PhDr. Stanislav Brouček, CSc., doc. PhDr. Lubomír Tyllner, CSc., doc. PhDr. Lydia Petráňová, CSc., PhDr. Jiří Traxler a PhDr. Josef Vařeka, DrSc., for the scientific result: Folk Culture. Ethnographic Encyklopedia of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia, accompanied by a sum of 100 000 CZK.

  • Mgr. Martin Ondreját, Ph.D., born 1976 (Institute of Information Theory and Automation of the ASCR, v. v. i.), for the scientific result: A cycle of papers on stochastic nonlinear wave equations, accompanied by a sum of 75 000 CZK.
  • a research team of the Institute of Botany of the ASCR, v. v. i., composed of doc. RNDr. Jan Suda, Ph.D., born 1974 and Mgr. Ing. Pavel Trávníček, born 1978, for the scientific result: Applications of flow cytometry to plant population biology, biosystematics and ecology, accompanied by a sum of 75 000 CZK.
  • Dr. phil. Pavel Blažek, B.A., D.E.A., born 1974 (Institute of Philosophy of the ASCR, v. v. i.), for the scientific result: The medieval reception of Aristotel´s Philosophy of marriage. From Robert Grosseteste to Bartholomew of Bruges (1246/7-1309), accompanied by a sum of 75 000 CZK.

  • a research team of the Institute of Art History of the ASCR, v. v. i., composed of: PhDr. Lenka Bydžovská, CSc., PhDr. Polana Bregantová and PhDr. Karel Srp, Ph.D. (City Gallery of Prague) for the scientific result: Jindřich Štyrský (1899-1942), accompanied by a sum of 80 000 CZK.
