Social Inequality and the Problem of Environmental Injustice in the Czech Republic

Anotace:
Environmental injustice refers to the phenomenon in which certain segments of a society are exposed to a disproportionate burden of negative environmental impacts, such as the tendency of low-income or socially excluded households to live near landfills, factories or various sources of pollution. While the causes, consequences and nature of environmental injustice have become major research topics in many countries of the world, there have been relatively few Czech studies on the topic. This seminar seeks to contribute to the literature on that topic by presenting the results of analyses of the determinants of Czech perceptions of environmental justice, on the basis of a new battery of environmentaljustice questions from the "ISSP 2010 - Environment" survey.
