prof. RNDr. Jana Musilová, CSc.

(born in 1948 Brno)

prof. RNDr. Jana Musilová, CSc. Jana Musilova finished her Master’s studies at the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University (formerly J. E. Purkyně University) in 1970 in “Mathematics and Physics Teaching for Secondary Schools” field and, in 1971 in “Solid State Physics” field. At the same faculty, she gained her RNDr. degree in 1973 in Experimental Physics (Low Energy Electron Diffraction on Samples With a General Crystallographic Orientation) and, in 1980, the CSc. degree for “Piezoreflectance of Germanium”. She defended her habilitation thesis in Physics of Condensed Matter and Acoustics (Piezoreflectance of Cubic Crystals) in 1991 and since 2003 she has been professor of general physics and mathematical physics, both at Masaryk University’s Faculty of Science. She has worked for the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University since 1970, at present being a professor of the Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics.

Her research activities aimed at low-energy electron diffraction and semiconductors optical properties, particularly modulation spectroscopy of cubic semiconductors. At present she is engaged in differential geometry on manifolds and calculus of variations for mathematical physics (variational theories in mechanics and field theories, non-holonomic systems geometrical theory) and in physics education. Her interests include research evaluation process as well.

She has distributed her teaching activities on the basic courses of general physics, the basic and advanced courses of mathematics for physics students and the postgraduate courses for doctoral students of “Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics” and “General Physics” fields. In 2002, she obtained the Teaching Award presented by the Union of Czech Mathematicians and Physicists.

She has been on a position in numerous expert councils, such as the vice-head of “Physics teaching” or “Organization of Research” groups of the Czech Physical Society of the Union of Czech Mathematicians and Physicists, a member of ASTRA 2000 project board of Czechoslovak “Charta 77” Foundation, a member of both the Scientific board of Masaryk University and the Scientific board of Masaryk University Pedagogical Faculty, a member of the Scientific Board of the Institute of Scientific Instruments of the Czech Academy of Sciences, the deputy head (1998) and head (1999) of the G4 Committee of Higher Education Institutions Development Fund. She was the vice-dean of the Faculty of Science (1993–1996 a 2000–2004) and the vice-rector for research of the Masaryk university (2004–2011). She is member of the Academic Assembly of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
