(born in 1941 Kolín)

prof. Ing. Karel Štulík, DrSc. Prof. Štulík graduated summa cum laude from the Faculty of Technical and Nuclear Physics, Czech Technical University, in 1963, specializing in physical and nuclear chemistry. His CSc. degree in analytical chemistry was awarded in 1967 by the J. Heyrovský Institute, Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, and his DrSc. degree in 1990 by Charles University in Prague.

Since 1967, with an interruption in 1968-69, he has been employed by the Faculty of Science, Charles University, as a scientist, since 1990 as an associate professor and since 1991 as a full professor of analytical chemistry. He served as the dean of the Faculty of Science during the period, 1997-2003, as the chairman of the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic from 1992 to 2000 and as the head of the Analytical Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Science until the end of February, 2006. In 1968-69 he lectured at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, and in the years, 1988 and 1969, he was a visiting professor at the Padova University.

His main research fields involve electroanalytical chemistry, high-performance separations, sensors, applications to the environment, biology and medicine, and some general questions of analytical chemistry. He has published over 300 scientific works, mostly in international media, five monographs in the Czech, English, Russian and Chinese (biamperometric titrations, ion-selective electrodes, electrochemical stripping analysis, electrochemical detection in flowing liquids) and authored teaching texts and textbooks for university and high-school students. He actively participated in about 100 scientific meetings, presented more than 30 invited lectures in Europe, USA, Japan and China and participated in the organization of several international conferences. He has supervised cca 60 MSc. and cca 30 PhD students.

Prof. Štulík has been a member of various scientific councils and several editorial boards of international journals dealing with analytical chemistry. He is a member of the Learned Society of the Czech Republic, a founding member of the Academy of Engineering of the Czech Republic, and a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, GB. In the past years, he actively participated in the activities of IUPAC, FECS and UNESCO. He received various prizes in both the academic and practical spheres.
