Call for a new director of the IOCB


DIRECTOR: Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Prague


The Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry (IOCB), at the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic is among the leading research institutes in the area of chemistry and biochemistry in Europe. The recent antiviral drug discoveries made by Prof. Holý and his team have resulted in a strong partnership with the pharmaceutical industry which has guaranteed continuing financial stability, which enables the finance of basic research carried out at IOCB.

The Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry (IOCB) is seeking applications from exceptional candidates for the position of the Director of the Institute. The current staff of IOCB includes approximately 550 employees including 350 scientists working in 25 research teams and core facilities. The IOCB has an annual budget of approximately $50M and it has been transforming into a modern research institution over the past decade. This transformation includes new major construction and refurbishing of the campus, currently under way. The mid-term goal of the IOCB in the next 5 years is to maintain excellence and meet the highest scientific standards in basic research in chemical biology, medicinal chemistry, organic synthesis, biochemistry and computational/physical chemistry.

Applicants must possess a Ph.D., or an equivalent doctorate degree in the area of chemistry (including physical chemistry) biology, or medicine, senior level scientific experience, and proven leadership in a major research institution. They are expected to present their vision on the direction and development of the IOCB. On-site interviews (preferred option) or the videoconference with pre-selected candidates will take place on April 2, 2012, 9 a.m. (local time, GMT+2) at the IOCB. The position will be available from June 1, 2012.
