Alexander Lomaia

Representative of Georgia to the United Nations

Alexander Lomaia is a Georgian diplomat and politician holding Ph.D. in Engineering from Moscow Construction Engineering Institute. Since the beginning of the year 2009 he has served as a Permanent Representative to the United Nations. Prior to the current position he has worked as a Minister of Education and Science and Secretary of the National Security Council of Georgia. Mr. Lomaia briefly served as Georgia's ambassador to Russia in 1991; afterwards he got involved in journalism devoted to the impact of political and economic development in the Caucasian region. He also actively worked for numerous NGOs and Eurasia Foundation and Open Society Georgia Foundation (George Soros Foundation). He was an active participant in Georgia's peaceful Rose Revolution in 2003.
