Stewart Eldon, British diplomat and former British Ambassador to Ireland, at this time advises to Transparency International on Defence and Security Issues. He also serves as Subject Matter Expert on Building Integrity to NATO, where he has retrained the position of UK Permanent Representative for 34 years, until retiring in 2010. During his diplomatic career, he focused on issues related to NATO, and he specialized in issues considering United Nations (UN) and the European Union (EU). He has been posted to the United Kingdom Missions to the UN in London and New York as well as he has been involved in negotiations on the Maastricht Treaty and the UK EU Presidency in 1992. He has contributed to a study on the impact of new information systems on Foreign Ministries and to a study on East Timor while being a Fellow at Harvard (1994) and Yale (2002) respectively. As an accredited Commercial Mediator and a member of the ADR Group, he offers mediation, training and negotiation services. He was awarded an OBE for serving as Deputy Crisis Manager for the 1990-91 Gulf War and he was knighted in 2009.
