Philosophy doctor Růžena Vacková studied classical philology and history of art at Charles University in Prague. She became known as an archeologist and an expert on the Roman Empire. But she also focused her interest on other fields, for example, culture: she wrote critical essays about theatre plays. After the communists took power in 1948 she was imprisoned for 15 years.
