  2. FORUM 2000 Conference ::: Oct. 9-11

    Invalid Input
  3. CERGE-EI is partnering with Vaclav Havel's Forum 2000 Foundation to focus on the critical role of democratic reforms and the rule of law in today’s world. How do weaknesses in the functioning of law undermine democracy? What is the relationship between the rule of law and individual freedom? What are the limits to state sovereignty and the international community’s right to humanitarian intervention and the responsibility to protect? The conference will also look at the role of corruption and organized crime. According to President Havel, “it would be good if intelligent people, not only from the various ends of the earth, different continents, different cultures, from civilization's religious circles, but also from different disciplines of human knowledge could come together somewhere in calm discussion.” Such discussion reflects the principles that have guided CERGE-EI since its founding and we are pleased to join in this year’s conference. Sessions organized by CERGE-EI will focus on:

    “The Rule of Law and Global Economic Performance”

    “Legal Institutions and Transition Success”

    “Shattering the Glass Ceiling: Women Leaders in Tomorrow’s World”

    “The Limits of Regulation”

    “Corruption and Society”

    Featured speakers will include: Kenneth Dam, Peter Eigen, Robert Hahn, Boris Nemtsov, Mikheil Saakasvhili, Hernando de Soto and Joseph Stiglitz, among many others.

    CERGE-EI guests will be able to attend the full array of Forum 2000 panels and to the maximum extent possible will be offered the opportunity to attend private receptions and events with the speakers. (Visit the Forum 2000 site for more information.)
