Ghia Nodia

Caucasus Institute for Peace, Democracy and Development

Ghia Nodia, former Minister of Education and Science, is a Georgian political analyst and academic expert specialized in democratization issues in the Caucasian region. He has graduated from the Department of Philosophy and Psychology at Tbilisi State University. Afterwards, for over 20 years he worked at the Institute of Philosophy of the Georgian Academy of Sciences. Since 1992 he has served as a chairman of the Caucasus Institute for Peace, Democracy and Development in Tbilisi. He is still a professor of politics at Ilia State University, where he holds the position of the director of the International School of Caucasus Studies. As a distinguished author and coauthor of many articles and books, including ‘The Political Landscape of Georgia: Political Parties: Achievements, Challenges, and Prospects’ (University of Chicago Press, 2007), he is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Democracy.
